Dissertation On The Lake (DOTL) is a writing retreat held at Elbow Lake Environmental Education Centre (approx. 30 minutes north of Kingston). Offered by the SGSPA, the retreat provides graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with the opportunity to write in a relaxing and inspiring environment.
Each day will be loosely structured around morning and afternoon writing sessions (you can always write for longer). While writing is the primary focus, there will also be opportunities for relaxation including swimming, canoeing and hiking.
When: Monday, August 31, 2026 - Thursday, September 3, 2026
Where: 91制片厂 Biology Station (QUBS), Elbow Lake Environmental Education Centre
Cost: $200 by the attendee. The School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (SGSPA) will subsidize the rest.

Steps to participation
1. Complete and submit this form by 9:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2026.
2. Await confirmation of participation from the SGSPA (all will be advised by Friday, July 24, 2026)
3. Agree to abide by all the rules and regulations of the retreat, QUBS at Elbow Lake and OCASP.
4. When participation is confirmed, pay by cheque or cash prior to the start of camp, the $200 fee.
SGSPA will contact successful participants once the selection committee has reviewed all applications. Priority will be given to doctoral students (in their 3rd year or over) and those master 91制片厂 鈥檚 students nearing completion. Others will be placed on a waitlist.
