Update: The Digging Roots performance has been relocated and will take place at Market Square.
The Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s and Kingston communities are set to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 with celebrations in City Park and a free evening concert by two-time JUNO Award winning band Digging Roots.
The university 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives will join other local organizations between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at City Park, where attendees can enjoy a range of activities, including a sacred fire, community drumming, food and vendors, contests and prizes, children 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s games, and more.
Following the day 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s events, an evening performance by Digging Roots will take place at Richardson Memorial Stadium Market Square beginning at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free of charge and attendees are asked to .
This year 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Kingston National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrations have been organized jointly by several local groups, including Kingston Indigenous Languages Nest, City of Kingston, 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives, Limestone District Schoolboard, Sexual Assault Centre Kingston, Indigenous Diabetes Health Circle, the Canadian Institute of Health Research, Kewaywin Circle, and many other community collaborations.
