A quick roundup of Queen's Gaels teams in action over the weekend:

FOOTBALL

The Queen 91ÖÆƬ³§ ’s Gaels (0-2) dropped a heartbreaker in Ottawa 14-13 to the No. 9 Ottawa Gee-Gees (2-0) in OUA football on Monday.

On a rainy day both teams struggled to move the ball but the Gaels built up a 9-3 lead at the half on three field goals by Nick Liberatore.

After the break, the Queen 91ÖÆƬ³§ ’s defence continued to make big plays as Cam Lawson and Nick Dowd each picked up sacks. Liberatore was able to pin the Gee-Gees in their endzone with a punt that resulted in a tackle in the endzone for a single point putting Queen 91ÖÆƬ³§ ’s up 10-3.

Ottawa replied early in the fourth quarter with a field goal and a single point but Liberatore added another field goal to stretch the lead to 13-7.

However, on the resulting kick-off, Ottawa 91ÖÆƬ³§ ’s Jackson Bennett returned the ball 99-yards for a touchdown. A successful conversion gave Ottawa their first lead of the game with just over a minute remaining and the hosts held on the rest of the way.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The No. 5 Queen 91ÖÆƬ³§ ’s Gaels (2-0-0) opened their season with a pair of wins at Richardson Stadium, topping the Laurentian Voyageurs 3-1 on Saturday and following up with a 4-2 win over the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday.

The Gaels got goals from Alexandra Doane, Rachel Radu and Jenny Wolever before the visitors added a late goal.

On Sunday, the Gaels were trailing 2-1 at the half, with Laura Callender finding the back of the Lakers net. But after the break it was all Queen 91ÖÆƬ³§ ’s with goals coming from Doane, Taylor Green and Matija Skoko.
