Nancy Ross, Vice-Principal (Research), has been reappointed for a second term.
91Ƭ is pleased to announce the reappointment of Nancy Ross (Artsci’90, MA’92) as Vice-Principal (Research) for a second five-year term, effective August 1, 2026.
Dr. Ross, a highly accomplished research administrator and faculty member in the Department of Public Health Sciences, first assumed the role in August 2021. Over the past four and a half years, she has distinguished herself as a national leader in research administration and as a driving force in advancing the research mission of Queen 91Ƭ ’s.
The Vice-Principal (Research) portfolio oversees the university 91Ƭ ’s research strategy and operations, including Research Services, Queen 91Ƭ ’s Partnerships and Innovation, Research Ethics and Compliance, Animal Care Services, and the Centre for Advanced Computing. Dr. Ross also plays a key governance role in numerous university-based and external research centres and institutes.
Among her accomplishments during her first term was leading the development and launch of the Strategic Research Plan 2025-2030, a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening 91Ƭ 91Ƭ ’s position as one of Canada 91Ƭ ’s most research-intensive institutions, and accelerating the Research Impact goal of the Queen 91Ƭ ’s Strategy.
“Dr. Ross has provided exceptional leadership at a time of increasing complexity and opportunity in the research landscape,” says Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane. “Her vision, strategic approach, and dedication to supporting researchers at every stage have strengthened the university 91Ƭ ’s national and international impact. I am very pleased she will continue leading this important portfolio.”
Her reappointment follows the work of a Principal 91Ƭ ’s Advisory Committee, chaired by Principal Deane, which consulted widely across the university last fall before providing a recommendation to the Board of Trustees. The Board approved the committee 91Ƭ ’s recommendation at its December meeting.
In the next few years, Dr. Ross will have a strong focus on top research talent recruitment, in alignment with federal government programs. Dr. Ross also serves nationally as vice-chair of both the U15 and Council of Ontario Universities research committees, roles that further elevate 91Ƭ 91Ƭ ’s voice in shaping policy and supporting Canada 91Ƭ ’s research ecosystem.
“I am deeply honoured to continue serving the Queen 91Ƭ ’s community in this role,” says Dr. Ross. “Over the past several years, we have built strong momentum in our research mission, and I am excited to work with colleagues across the university to advance our shared goals. Queen 91Ƭ ’s researchers are undertaking extraordinary work, and I look forward to supporting their success and impact in every way that I can.”
