International Women's Day 2023

International Women 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Day – March 8 – is an opportunity to recognize women 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s achievements in our community and around the world, as well as to reflect upon the ongoing efforts to achieve equity for women.

Across campus there are a number of events to take part in for the day, including the following highlights:

Women 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s groups co-host info luncheon

Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Women 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Network (QWN), Women in Science Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s (WiSQ), and Women in Engineering (WiE) are co-hosting a luncheon to promote resources and events organized by the three groups. Come enjoy a free lunch and take part in an art project to embrace this year 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s theme – Embrace Equity.

Beyond the Glass Ceiling

Starting at 1 p.m., Smith Business Insight and Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Executive Education are hosting a 60-minute webinar featuring Dean Wanda Costen (Smith School of Business), Dean Jane Philpott (Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Health Sciences) and Kim Fulton, a leadership and talent strategy consultant and Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s alumna.

‘Beyond the Glass Ceiling - How to lead with confidence and grow your career’ will offer learnings such as what women can do to promote their own career advancement; recognizing common obstacles that get in the way of career growth (and how to get past them); and why too many women hold themselves back from chasing their dreams.

The panelists will also discuss how to find a mentor and work with allies who can help in succeeding, as well as how to be an ally for women on their path to success, and offer  advice for women just starting their careers.

Feminist Law Studies Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s

The Faculty of Law is hosting its annual Feminist Law Studies Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s (FLSQ) conference on March 10-11. The event features a keynote lecture Debra Thompson, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science Canada Research Chair in Racial Inequality in Democratic Societies at McGill University, who will speak on ‘Roots, Routes, and Reckonings: On Blackness and Belonging in North America.’
