High Commissioners and Ambassadors from nineteen countries across the Asia Pacific with Queen 91Ƭ ’s

In October 2024 91Ƭ relaunched its twice annual Ambassadors’ Forum, bringing together High Commissioners and Ambassadors from nineteen countries across the Asia Pacific with Queen 91Ƭ ’s experts to facilitate meaningful dialogue on critical issues impacting both Asia and Canada.

The Ambassadors’ Forum advances Queen 91Ƭ ’s international government relations and knowledge dissemination goals, positioning Queen 91Ƭ ’s as a trusted leader on key issues impacting both Canada and Asian countries. 

“The Forum provides a unique and neutral venue for diplomats to discuss current affairs and pressing issues with experts from the university and is an important venue for Queen 91Ƭ ’s contribution to advancing collaboration on SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”, notes Dr. Sandra den Otter, Queen 91Ƭ ’s Vice-Provost Global Engagement. “We are proud to be developing a relationship of trust with diplomats across Asia through this event.”

Developed by the Office of Vice-Provost, Global Engagement (VPGE), 91Ƭ, the Ambassadors’ Forum relaunch was held with a featured luncheon hosted by His Excellency Kallayana Vipattipumiprates, the Thai Ambassador to Canada, at the Thai Official Residence in Ottawa. First launched in 2003 by Professor Hok-Lin Leung, Professor Emeritus in the Queen 91Ƭ ’s Department of Geography and Planning, the Forum was interrupted by COVID-19 pandemic.

The event brought together Ambassadors, High Commissioners, country representatives from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan,  Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Dr. , Emeritus Professor of Political Studies at 91Ƭ addressed Ambassadors and High Commissioners on the topic of “The US Election: implications for Canada”.  In a lively Q&A, the diplomats had an engaging discussion with Professor Nossal about the US election and democratic governance.
