Protect Your Valuables

Porch theft is common. When ordering a package, choose to pick it up from the post office, request a signature upon delivery, or ask a neighbour to grab it.

Keep a list of your valuables (make, model, serial number, purchase date).

Lock your bike and keep it out of sight. Register it for free with Kingston Police () to improve your chances of getting it back.

Record the serial numbers of electronics and bikes. A quick photo helps prove ownership.

Secure Entry Points

Keep windows and doors locked at all times, even when you're home. 

If a lock is broken, tell the landlord right away.

Use a safety bar on sliding doors to prevent them from being forced open.

Keys & Access

You can ask your landlord to re-key or change the locks before moving in.

Don't hide spare keys outside. Instead, give one to a trusted neighbour.

Avoid putting your address on keys or keychains.
