Declaration of commitment to address systemic racism

The recent calls for administrative leadership on anti-racism, from staff, faculty, and especially students, have been heard clearly and action will be taken.

To this end, and with guidance from our Associate Vice-Principals, Stephanie Simpson and Janice Hill, I have prepared a Declaration, on behalf of the university 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s administration, to address racism, systemic as well as individual.

Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s announces appointment of 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor

91ÖÆÆ¬³§ introduced its next Principal and Vice-Chancellor today at a special announcement event in Stauffer Library. Patrick Deane will become the 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor on July 1, 2019, succeeding Principal Daniel Woolf.

Dr. Deane is currently the President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University, but he is also a familiar presence here at Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s. Before moving to Hamilton in 2010, he served as Vice-Principal (Academic) at Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s from 2005 to 2010.

It 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s been just over 90 days since Patrick Deane took on the role of Principal and Vice-Chancellor at Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s. Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s signs the Magna Charta Universitatum

91ÖÆÆ¬³§ is one of the newest signatories of the , joining a collective of close to 900 universities around the globe. Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane signed the document at a ceremony closing the Magna Charta Observatory 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s annual conference, held for the first time in North America at McMaster University in Hamilton on Oct. 17.

Celebrating with the Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s community

On a historic day at Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s, as Patrick Deane was installed as the 21st principal and vice-chancellor of the university. Over 400 people attended the ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Grant Hall, which has been the site of almost every installation since it opened in 1905.

Following the academic procession into the hall, Chancellor Jim Leech delivered an official welcome to the audience. Donald Raymond, Chair of the Board of Trustees, then presented Principal Deane to the chancellor, who led the new principal through the Pledge of Office.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane hosted local organizers, businesses, politicians, and other stakeholders from across Kingston recently at the 2019 Principal 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s Community Breakfast for a discussion on how 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ and the community can work together to build a strong future for Kingston and the surrounding area.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane announced Mark F. Green (Sc’87) will serve as 91ÖÆÆ¬³§'s next Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic). Dr. Green is a skilled and respected administrator, accomplished researcher, admired teacher, and champion of diversity and inclusivity who currently holds the position of Vice Dean (Graduate Studies and Recruitment) at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ ’s. He will begin his five-year term as Provost on March 1, 2020, succeeding Interim Provost Tom Harris.
